Overview

This VMware Infrastructure 3.5: Install and Configure hands-on training course explores VMware Infrastructure 3, which consists of VMware ESX Server and VMware VirtualCenter. Completion of this course entitles the participant to attempt the examination for VMware Certified Professional status. This course is continued in a follow-on course entitled VMware Infrastructure 3: Deploy, Secure, and Analyze.

Target Audience

  • System administrators, systems engineers, and operators responsible for ESX Server and/or VirtualCenter

Prerequisites

  • System administration experience on Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems

Delegates will learn how to

  • Install and configure virtual machines
  • Deploy virtual machines from templates and allocate resources
  • Migrate and manage virtual machines
  • Ensure high availability of applications
  • Troubleshoot typical ESX Server issues

  • Module 3: Networking: Configuration of virtual switches, network connections and port groups
  • Module 4: Storage: Storage management technologies
  • Module 5: VirtualCenter Installation: Set-up of VirtualCenter
  • Module 6: Creation and Management of VMs: Use of templates, Manage using VMware VirtualCenter and Web Access
  • Module 7: Resource Management: VMotion migrations, Setting VM priorities on CPU, memory, and other resources
  • Module 8: Virtual Machine Access Control: Controlling administrator rights
  • Module 9: Monitoring Your Environment: Workload assessment, Service Console monitoring
  • Module 10: Data and Availability Protection: Clustering, backups, failover
  • Module 11: Troubleshooting: Systematic isolation of problems, Common symptoms, faults, fixes
